Nagasaki Weather, When to Go and Nagasaki Climate Information
(Nagasaki, Kyushu, Japan, JP)
Nagasaki is known for its warm climate, with the weather varying greatly around the prefecture. Whilst the summer temperatures in Nagasaki can be high, many travellers choose to visit this city during the more stable seasons of spring and autumn.
Spring, between March and May, is a great time to see Nagasaki, when the mature cherry trees are bursting with blossoms, known locally as 'sakuras'. Autumn offers an equally appealing climate and falls between September and November. In particular, October and November are the driest months of the year with little in the way of rainy weather, an added advantage when visiting Nagasaki at this time of the year.
Nagasaki Weather and Climate: Seasonal Variations / When to Go - Nagasaki, Japan, JP
Springtime temperatures in Nagasaki are particularly favourable and regularly exceed 15°C / 59°F and top 20°C / 68°F towards the end of April and throughout May. By the time that summer has arrived, the climate in Nagasaki is considerably hotter and more humid. Temperatures in July and August regularly approach 30°C / 86°F, remaining warm all through the night.
Rather surprisingly, June, July and August can also feature more than their fair share of rainy weather in Nagasaki. In particular, June stands out and is a brief rainy season, when precipitation levels average around 140 mm / 5.5 inches for the month, when compared to the total annual precipitation of approximately 2,000 mm / 78 inches.
With a rugged coastline and impressive sandy beaches, the sunny summer weather and hot climate makes sunbathing especially popular in Nagasaki, although the humidity levels can make these high temperatures feel a little muggy at times. Whilst the winter climate in Nagasaki is considerably cooler than the summer, daytime temperatures do stay above 10°C / 50°F. October, November and December all tend to be the driest months.
